Meandering

Well, a couple of updates. I don't think that I had posted that I finished up the website that I talked about a couple of weeks ago. The address is www.dunneback.com/writing, so go check it out and let me know what you think of it. I've got a guestbook and a contest, too. Audience participation!

So, I managed to finish up chapter six finally last week. That meant that I made my monthly goal for my one writing chapter: write two chapters of the book. Yeah! I'm glad I set low expectations for myself ;) The other thing that happened at the meeting was that I found out that an article I wrote on online searching had been forwarded to three chapter e-mail lists and reprinted in another chapter newsletter. I'm soo happy! Fodder for my writing resume!

Speaking of which, I have a short story in for consideration at the student newspaper for my campus. I found out about the request for submissions the same day that it was due, so I don't think what I wrote was all that great, but we'll see what happens. I have no expectations of the editorial staff getting back to me even if they decide to include my submission, though. If it does get included and is put online, I'll put up a link to it here. If they decide not to include it, I'll probably end up putting it online for you guys to read anyway. I'll have a friend of mine do a critique of it first though and clean it up.

Final update for the night. I've started chapter seven of Seasons and, man, is it hitting close to home. The main plot point for this chapter is that Meggie loses her job on really short notice. I'm finishing up my graduate program in May and I'm in the middle of a job search. I found out last Friday that a position that I had applied for received 99 applications. That is a lot for librarian positions from what I understand! Now, I'm starting to question if I'm ever going to find a job that I like and pays pretty decently. I swear that I didn't consciously plan this timing. But, I'm hoping that what I'm feeling now can be translated over to Meggie. So, for all those who are in search of jobs or are worried for their current jobs, please know my sympathies are with you. Hopefully one day this economy will get turned around. I think I'll just leave it at that for now ;)
