Katie grew up in Chicago and started reading romance
at the age of 14. Her dad swears it was even earlier. Katie was
so addicted to reading that she would read at night by the crack
of light coming in underneath the door, and even had books taken
away from her in class.
Despite not paying all that much attention to the
here and now, she managed to finally graduate college with a degree
in Anthropology. It was during a short stint in the "real world"
that Katie finally got serious about writing after a few years of
dabbling, and also joined the Romance
Writers of America. With her long history of reading romance,
and having parents married very happily for over 25 years, she couldn't
contemplate writing anything else. It was the forensic anthropology
background that led her to romantic suspense. There is nothing like
killing people off in a fictional world to pull you out of a depression.
Deciding that the "real world" was not for
her, Katie went back to school for a Master's in Library and Information
Science. It was during her first year there that she finished that
first book, Mind Games.
During summer break, instead of taking class like
a good student, she spent the summer getting ready for the RWA National
Conference where she just planned to soak up the atmosphere. It
was when they posted the available editor/agent appointments there
that Katie's notorious streak of doing things just for the hell
of it reared its head. She came away from the appointment with a
request for the full of Mind Games. While it was ultimately
rejected, she thanks that editor for being interested enough to
take the chance and read her work and sending a detailed rejection
letter. She is also grateful because with Mind Games being
requested, she achieved RWA Pro status.
Currently, Katie is in the middle of a number of projects
and serves on the RWA Website committee. She is hopeful for attending
the 2004 National RWA Conference in Dallas, TX.
