Katie's KeepersNovember 2003 :: Naked In Death by J.D. Robb Death is still death in the year 2053. New tools of death are invented, but the olds ones won't go away. Money is still power. Politics are still dirty. Sex still rules all. Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the New York Police and Security Department must solve a murder of a Licensed Companion who was done in by a weapon that all examples of are now antiques. A handgun. The killer leaves two clues for Lt. Dallas, the murder weapon and three words on a slip of paper: "one of six." Background checks on the victim leads Lt. Dallas to Roarke. The shadowy billionaire has his fingers on everything from electronics development to off-planet real estate. He is fascinated by Lt. Dallas's focus on her job and his attraction to a cop. Money is little more than a means to an end for him, and she doesn't give a damn beyond standing for the victim, whoever the victim happened to be. Watch as Eve races to find the killer before he fulfills his promise and her struggle against involvement with her prime suspect, Roarke. When this book was released in 1995, it broke new ground in creating an equally compelling romance and continuing mystery series. J.D. Robb is the pseudonym for Nora Roberts, and the high level of quality storytelling shines through. Read this book and then rush out for the rest of the series.
